For more than 22 years I worked in clinical environments including emergency trauma, cardiology departments, ambulatory care settings, procedure areas, nursing facilities, and MedSurg units.
During those years I saw the dedication of clinical environmental sanitation professionals who work tirelessly to care for patients.
But I also witnessed something concerning.
Sanitation was sometimes treated as routine maintenance rather than an important part of the environment that supports patient care.
